Description
A homemade cranberry sauce bursting with fresh berries, apple chunks, and warm spices that transforms any meal into something special.
Ingredients
- 3½ cups fresh cranberries
- 1 medium Honeycrisp apple, peeled and diced
- Zest of 1 large orange
- ⅓ cup fresh orange juice
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ⅓ cup water
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon fresh grated nutmeg
Instructions
- Rinse cranberries and remove any stems or damaged berries. Peel and dice apple into small cubes. Zest orange and squeeze juice.
- Combine all ingredients in a heavy-bottomed saucepan and stir well to distribute sugar evenly.
- Bring mixture to a rolling boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally.
- Reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer for 12-15 minutes, stirring once halfway through. Cranberries will burst and sauce will thicken.
- Remove from heat and cool completely before serving. Sauce will continue to thicken as it cools.
Notes
- Sauce keeps refrigerated for up to one week
- Can be frozen for up to 3 months
- Adjust sugar to taste – can reduce by up to ¼ cup for less sweetness
- For thinner consistency, stir in water while sauce is still warm
