Description

A homemade cranberry sauce bursting with fresh berries, apple chunks, and warm spices that transforms any meal into something special.


Ingredients

  • 3½ cups fresh cranberries
  • 1 medium Honeycrisp apple, peeled and diced
  • Zest of 1 large orange
  • ⅓ cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ⅓ cup water
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon fresh grated nutmeg

Instructions

  • Rinse cranberries and remove any stems or damaged berries. Peel and dice apple into small cubes. Zest orange and squeeze juice.
  • Combine all ingredients in a heavy-bottomed saucepan and stir well to distribute sugar evenly.
  • Bring mixture to a rolling boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally.
  • Reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer for 12-15 minutes, stirring once halfway through. Cranberries will burst and sauce will thicken.
  • Remove from heat and cool completely before serving. Sauce will continue to thicken as it cools.

Notes

  • Sauce keeps refrigerated for up to one week
  • Can be frozen for up to 3 months
  • Adjust sugar to taste – can reduce by up to ¼ cup for less sweetness
  • For thinner consistency, stir in water while sauce is still warm
