Ingredients
- 4 cups water
- 1 tablespoon butter (optional)
- Maple syrup or honey, to taste
- Pinch of salt
- 3 medium-to-large apples, cored and chopped
- 1 cup steel-cut oats

- Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat and toast the steel-cut oats for about 2 minutes until fragrant.
- Stir in the chopped apples, water, and salt, then increase heat to bring the mixture to a boil.
- Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 30-35 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the oats are creamy and liquid is absorbed.
- Remove from heat and let the oatmeal rest for 5 minutes to thicken further.
- Stir in maple syrup or honey to taste and serve warm with your favorite toppings.
Notes
