Description

A creamy, hearty breakfast featuring toasted steel-cut oats and tender apples cooked together in one pot.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon butter (optional)
  • Maple syrup or honey, to taste
  • Pinch of salt
  • 3 medium-to-large apples, cored and chopped
  • 1 cup steel-cut oats

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat and toast the steel-cut oats for about 2 minutes until fragrant.
  2. Stir in the chopped apples, water, and salt, then increase heat to bring the mixture to a boil.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 30-35 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the oats are creamy and liquid is absorbed.
  4. Remove from heat and let the oatmeal rest for 5 minutes to thicken further.
  5. Stir in maple syrup or honey to taste and serve warm with your favorite toppings.

Notes

For a dairy-free version, use coconut oil instead of butter. Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 4 days.
