Description
Savory caramelized onion and goat cheese tarts made with flaky puff pastry and finished with a balsamic glaze.
Ingredients
- 1 Tablespoon olive oil
- Sea salt to taste
- Fresh chopped parsley for garnish
- 2 Onions peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 Sheet puff pastry (thawed)
- Balsamic reduction for drizzling
- 1 egg (whisked for egg wash)
- 4 oz goat cheese (log form, crumbled)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
- In a skillet over medium heat, warm the olive oil and add the sliced onions. Cook slowly, stirring frequently, for 20-25 minutes until the onions are deep golden brown and very soft.
- Unroll the puff pastry sheet and cut it into 12 equal squares, placing them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Brush the edges of each pastry square with the whisked egg wash to encourage browning.
- Spoon a small amount of the caramelized onions into the center of each square.
- Bake for 15 minutes or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and immediately top with crumbled goat cheese.
- Drizzle with balsamic reduction and garnish with fresh chopped parsley before serving.
Notes
Ensure the puff pastry is cold when working with it for the best rise.
