  • Author: Amelia Bryan

Description

This classic Southern dessert features juicy peaches nestled in a buttery, golden crust for the perfect balance of fruit and comfort.

Ingredients

For the Filling:

  • 56 ripe peaches (about 4 cups sliced)
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Batter:

  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for topping)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Place butter in 9×13 baking dish and melt in preheating oven.
  • Peel and slice peaches. Combine with sugar, salt, lemon juice, and vanilla in saucepan. Cook 3-4 minutes until sugar dissolves.
  • Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in bowl. Stir in milk until just combined.
  • Pour batter over melted butter in baking dish (do not stir).
  • Distribute peaches evenly over batter and pour juices on top. Sprinkle with cinnamon.
  • Bake 40-45 minutes until golden brown and set in center.
  • Cool 15 minutes before serving warm with vanilla ice cream.

Notes

For year-round enjoyment, substitute one 29-oz can of sliced peaches in light syrup (undrained) for fresh peaches.
