Description

Sweet and chewy candied orange slices dipped in rich chocolate. A simple 4-ingredient treat perfect for holiday gifts or snacking.


Ingredients

  • 3 cups water
  • 13.5 ounces dark or milk chocolate, chopped
  • 4 small to medium oranges (seedless preferred)
  • 2.9 cups granulated white sugar

Instructions

  1. Wash the oranges thoroughly and slice off the ends. Cut the fruit into thin rounds, approximately 1/8 inch thick, removing any seeds if present.
  2. In a large, wide skillet or pot, combine the water and sugar over medium heat. Stir constantly until the sugar has fully dissolved into a clear syrup.
  3. Add the orange slices to the syrup in a single layer if possible. Reduce the heat to low and simmer gently for about 55 to 65 minutes, turning them occasionally, until the rinds are translucent.
  4. Remove the slices with tongs and place them on a wire rack set over a baking sheet. Let them dry at room temperature for about 24 hours until they are tacky but not wet.
  5. Melt the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals until smooth. Dip half of each orange slice into the chocolate and place on parchment paper to set.

Notes

Save the leftover syrup for cocktails or tea. If your kitchen is humid, drying may take slightly longer.
