- 8 tablespoons butter, softened
- ⅔ cup packed brown sugar
- 1½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
- ¾ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
Instructions

- Preheat oven to 375°F. Butter a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Roll pastry into 20×16-inch rectangle. Cut into 8 squares.
- Mix brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger in small bowl.
- Fill each cored apple with 1 tablespoon butter and 1 tablespoon spice mixture.
- Wrap each apple in pastry square, sealing edges with water. Place in baking dish.
- Pour sauce around dumplings. Cover with foil and bake 30 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake 20-25 minutes until golden brown and sauce bubbles.
Notes
Test doneness by inserting knife into apple – should slide through easily. Let rest 10 minutes before serving for best texture.
