Description
Restaurant-quality fried buffalo chicken sandwiches made at home with a buttermilk marinade and spicy buffalo sauce.
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 3 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
- 3 tablespoons Buffalo sauce, divided
- 1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 1/4 cup canola oil
- 6 hamburger buns
- 3 tablespoons ranch dressing
- 1/2 cup sliced pickles
- 6 slices tomato
- 6 leaves lettuce
Instructions
- Slice each chicken breast horizontally into 2 thin fillets. Place the 6 fillets in a resealable bag with buttermilk, 1 tablespoon of Buffalo sauce, and garlic powder; seal and shake to coat, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). In a shallow dish, whisk together the flour, poultry seasoning, and black pepper.
- Remove chicken from the marinade, shaking off excess, and dredge in the flour mixture until evenly coated.
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry chicken fillets in batches for 2 to 3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
- Transfer fried chicken to a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes, or until an instant-read thermometer reads 165 degrees F (74 degrees C).
- Assemble sandwiches by placing a chicken fillet on a bun bottom, adding extra Buffalo sauce, pickles, tomato, and lettuce, and spreading ranch dressing on the top bun.
Notes
For extra heat, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the flour mixture. If you prefer blue cheese over ranch, it makes a great substitution.
