Ingredients

Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1½ tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 2 teaspoons chili garlic sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 garlic clove, grated
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch + 2 teaspoons water (slurry)

Stir Fry:

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1½ cups fresh pineapple, diced
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Make the sauce: Whisk together all sauce ingredients except cornstarch slurry in a small bowl. Set aside.
  • Cook the beef: Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and green onions, breaking up meat as it cooks. Season with salt and pepper. Cook 5-6 minutes until browned.
  • Add pineapple: Stir in diced pineapple and cook 2 more minutes.
  • Add sauce: Pour sauce over beef mixture and stir. Let bubble for 1 minute, then add cornstarch slurry and stir until incorporated.
  • Finish: Cook 3-4 minutes more until sauce thickens. Garnish with green onions, sesame seeds, and cilantro. Serve over rice or noodles.

Notes

  • Fresh pineapple gives the best texture, but canned (drained) works in a pinch
