Easy Homemade Caramel Apples

Easy Homemade Caramel Apples

  • Author: Amelia Bryan
  • Total Time: 35 minutes (plus 15 minutes chilling)
  • Yield: 8 caramel apples

Description

A simple, foolproof method for creating delicious homemade caramel apples with perfectly sticky caramel that doesn’t slide off.

Ingredients

  • 8 medium apples (Granny Smith recommended)
  • 4 packages (11 oz total) soft caramels
  • 3 tablespoons heavy cream
  • Wooden craft sticks or popsicle sticks
  • Assorted toppings of your choice

Instructions

  • Wash apples in vinegar solution (6 cups water + 1 tbsp white vinegar), dry completely, and insert sticks. Chill for 30 minutes.
  • Prepare toppings in small bowls. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Melt unwrapped caramels with heavy cream over medium-low heat, stirring frequently until smooth.
  • Dip cold apples into caramel, coating evenly and allowing excess to drip off.
  • Immediately add toppings while caramel is still warm and sticky.
  • Place on prepared sheet and refrigerate for 15 minutes until set.
  • For best results, serve the same day or store in refrigerator for up to 5 days.

Notes

Complete drying of apples is essential for caramel adhesion. For picture-perfect apples, trim excess caramel from the bottom with kitchen scissors after it has set completely.
