Easy Crispy Cinnamon Apple Fries

  • Author: Amelia Bryan
  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 6 people

Description

Golden, tender apple sticks with a light crispy coating and warm cinnamon sugar that melts on your tongue.

Ingredients

  • Oil for frying (about 2 cups)
  • 4 medium Granny Smith apples, cut into ¼-inch sticks
  • ⅓ cup cornstarch
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • Caramel sauce for dipping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat oil to 350°F in a heavy-bottomed skillet over medium heat, about 8 minutes.
  2. Cut apples into ¼-inch thick sticks, leaving skin on.
  3. Place cornstarch in a shallow bowl. Mix sugar and cinnamon in another bowl.
  4. Dredge apple pieces in cornstarch, shaking off excess.
  5. Fry in batches for 90 seconds to 2 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Remove with slotted spoon and drain briefly on paper towels.
  7. Roll hot apple fries in cinnamon sugar mixture.
  8. Serve immediately with caramel sauce.

Notes

  • Don’t overcrowd the pan when frying – work in small batches
  • Oil temperature is crucial – too hot and they burn, too cool and they get soggy
  • Honeycrisp or Gala apples work well as alternatives to Granny Smith
