Description
Tender apples filled with caramelized brown sugar, cinnamon, and cranberries.
Ingredients
- 6 large firm apples (Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, or Rome Beauty)
- ⅔ cup packed brown sugar
- 1¼ teaspoons ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ½ cup dried cranberries
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
- ⅓ cup chopped walnuts (optional)
- 1¼ cups hot water
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 380°F. Mix brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cranberries in a bowl.
- Core apples, leaving bottom ½ inch intact. Place in 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Fill each apple with brown sugar mixture, pressing gently.
- Top with butter pieces and walnuts. Pour hot water into dish bottom.
- Bake 50-55 minutes until apples are tender but hold their shape.
- Cool 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Choose firm apples that will hold their shape during baking
- Don’t core all the way through—leave the bottom intact
- Tent with foil if browning too quickly
- Drizzle pan juices over apples when serving
