Description

Tender apples filled with caramelized brown sugar, cinnamon, and cranberries.


Ingredients

  • 6 large firm apples (Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, or Rome Beauty)
  • ⅔ cup packed brown sugar
  • 1¼ teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ½ cup dried cranberries
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • ⅓ cup chopped walnuts (optional)
  • 1¼ cups hot water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 380°F. Mix brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cranberries in a bowl.
  2. Core apples, leaving bottom ½ inch intact. Place in 9×13 inch baking dish.
  3. Fill each apple with brown sugar mixture, pressing gently.
  4. Top with butter pieces and walnuts. Pour hot water into dish bottom.
  5. Bake 50-55 minutes until apples are tender but hold their shape.
  6. Cool 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Choose firm apples that will hold their shape during baking
  • Don’t core all the way through—leave the bottom intact
  • Tent with foil if browning too quickly
  • Drizzle pan juices over apples when serving
